Negative criticisms will not do the team any good, Keshi declares
Nigerian coach Stephen Keshi is not new with criticisms and bitter accusations, after his sudden retirement after he led the Nigerian team to its third AFCON glory in 2013, and the game against Iran at the 2014 FIFA World Cup, he is no longer a stranger to the critics in the football world.
The Big boss has however come out to say that the negative criticism of the Nigerian fans of his team's performance in the World Cup is not helping them all in the achievement of their objectives at the tournament.
“The fans have gone to the extent of insulting the players and their families. So how will they (players) get inspired or motivated.
“They keep insulting the players, and yet you want them to keep playing for Nigeria? If I were a player now, I’d stop playing for the national team.
“I am disappointed, totally disappointed, but it’s their thing, no wahala.
“It’s a shame, just a shame that we keep doing the same thing and then they come back and they say they are sorry. Sorry for abusing my mum? Sorry for abusing my siblings? For what? That I am representing Nigeria?” Keshi blasted in Brazil
He further cited the performance of other nations at the World Cup and the reactions of their fans: “England and Spain are out of the world cup, and nobody in those countries has raised hell about their teams performances, but yet we get criticized for drawing against Iran.''
The two time African Nations Cup winner concluded that: “It is a shame what our fans are doing. They thought Iran was easy but they saw how difficult it was for Argentina to beat them. Now they are apologizing because we defeated Bosnia but I ask ‘what are they apologizing for?”
“To be honest, I’m hugely disappointed. They should just give us a break. You have to support your team to the end, not insult them.”
In an exclusive interview with Education9ja Sports, goal scorer against Bosnia Osaze Odemwingie also stated the need for more support and prayers for the team.
